Microsoft Teams Login: Sign In Help for Business Users
Signing in to Microsoft Teams uses your Microsoft 365 work account credentials. On the desktop app, enter your work email address and follow the authentication flow — including MFA if enabled. This guide covers sign-in on desktop, browser and mobile, plus troubleshooting for the most common login issues.

How to Sign In to Teams on Desktop
Open the Teams desktop application. On the sign-in screen, enter your work email address (the email associated with your Microsoft 365 licence, typically yourname@company.co.uk) and click Sign In. Teams redirects you to your organisation's Microsoft login page.
If your organisation has configured Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) — which we strongly recommend — you'll be prompted to verify your identity via the Microsoft Authenticator app, a text message, or a phone call. Complete the MFA step and Teams will load your workspace.
If your business uses Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO), Teams may sign you in automatically when you open the app on a domain-joined or Intune-enrolled device. In this case, you won't need to enter credentials manually.
Signing In on Teams Web (Browser)
Go to teams.microsoft.com in your browser. Click Sign In and enter your work email. The process is the same as the desktop app, including MFA. Teams in the browser works best in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. If you're signing in on a shared or public computer, ensure you sign out afterwards and don't save your password to the browser.
Signing In on the Mobile App
Open the Teams app on your iPhone or Android device. Tap Sign In and enter your work email. If MFA is required, the Authenticator app notification or SMS code will be sent as usual. Once signed in, Teams on mobile will stay signed in unless you manually sign out or your IT administrator enforces re-authentication policies.
Multiple Account Sign-In
Teams supports signing in to multiple accounts simultaneously. To add a second account (for example, a personal Microsoft account or a second work account), click your profile picture in the top-left of the Teams app and select Add another account. You can switch between accounts without signing out.
This is useful for consultants or IT professionals managing multiple Microsoft 365 tenants, as well as staff who use both personal and work Teams accounts.
Common Login Issues and How to Fix Them
Wrong Account Keeps Signing In
Teams remembers the last signed-in account. If you're being signed in to the wrong account automatically, click your profile picture, select the account that loaded, and choose Sign Out. Then reopen Teams and sign in with the correct account. On Windows, you may also need to clear the Windows Credentials Manager entries for Teams.
MFA Prompt Not Arriving
If you're not receiving the MFA prompt, check that the Microsoft Authenticator app is installed and set up, or that the phone number for SMS verification is correct in your Microsoft account settings. If Authenticator shows a code but you need to enter it somewhere, check whether Teams is showing a number-matching screen — this is a phishing-resistant MFA feature added in recent updates.
Account Locked or Sign-In Blocked
If you see an error like “Your account has been locked” or “Sign-in is blocked”, your IT administrator has either locked the account due to suspicious activity or the account hasn't been licenced. Contact your IT department or your Microsoft 365 admin to check the account status in Azure Active Directory.
Teams Opens Blank or Doesn't Load
Clearing the Teams cache usually resolves this. On Windows: close Teams, navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and delete the contents of the Cache folder, then reopen Teams. On Mac: close Teams and delete the contents of ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache.
Password Reset
Teams uses the same password as your Microsoft 365 account. Reset your password via your organisation's password reset portal (often accessible at aka.ms/sspr if self-service password reset is enabled) or ask your IT administrator to reset it from the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre.
Signing Out of Teams
To sign out, click your profile picture in Teams and select Sign Out. This is important when using shared computers or leaving a device unattended. Note that on personally managed devices, your IT administrator may enforce automatic sign-out after a period of inactivity through conditional access policies.
If your business needs help configuring secure sign-in policies for Microsoft 365 — including MFA enforcement, conditional access, and Intune device compliance — AMVIA manages these settings as part of our Microsoft 365 support service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Use your Microsoft 365 work email address — typically yourname@company.co.uk. This is the email associated with your Microsoft 365 licence. If you're unsure, ask your IT administrator which email is associated with your Teams account.
Repeated sign-in prompts are usually caused by token expiry, a conditional access policy requiring re-authentication, or an issue with the Teams cache. Try clearing the Teams cache folder. If the issue persists, your IT administrator may have configured a short session timeout through Azure AD conditional access policies.
Yes. You can sign in to Teams on your PC, Mac, phone and tablet simultaneously with the same account. Messages and notifications are synchronised across all devices. Your IT administrator can set policies to limit which device types can access Teams if required.
Teams uses your Microsoft 365 account password. If self-service password reset is enabled, visit aka.ms/sspr to reset it yourself using a verification method. Otherwise, contact your IT administrator to reset it from the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre.
This usually means the email address you're entering isn't associated with a Microsoft 365 licence, or the account hasn't been created yet. Verify you're using your work email address. If you're a new starter, ask your IT team to confirm your account has been provisioned and a Teams licence assigned.
