Managed Wireless Access Points for Business: Enterprise WiFi from AMVIA
AMVIA installs, configures, and manages enterprise-grade wireless access points for UK businesses. From single-site offices to multi-floor buildings, we design WiFi networks that provide consistent coverage, secure segmentation, and remote monitoring.
Enterprise WiFi, Managed for You
Enterprise wireless access points differ from consumer routers in performance, management, and security. A properly designed WiFi network supports high device density, guest network separation, VLAN segmentation, and centralised management. AMVIA designs the network, installs the hardware, and monitors it so performance issues are caught before staff notice them.

Consumer routers and basic ISP-supplied equipment are not designed for business environments. They lack the management capability, security controls, and performance characteristics needed to support twenty or more concurrent users, mixed device types, and the density of modern office use. As businesses have moved to cloud-first tools and wireless-only devices, the demands on WiFi infrastructure have increased substantially.

Poor WiFi manifests in ways that are easy to misattribute. Slow video calls, dropped connections, unreliable VoIP, and inconsistent access to cloud applications are all commonly caused by inadequate wireless infrastructure rather than the internet connection or the applications themselves.
Site Survey and Network Design
A reliable WiFi installation begins with a site survey. AMVIA conducts a physical walkthrough of your premises to assess the building layout, wall construction, sources of interference, and existing cable infrastructure. This informs the access point placement plan and the number of units required for consistent coverage at the desired signal strength.
Good design avoids both under-coverage — areas with weak signal — and channel interference from access points that are too close together. AMVIA produces a coverage map and placement plan before any hardware is ordered, so you can see the expected outcome before committing.
Hardware Selection
AMVIA installs access points from enterprise vendors including Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti UniFi, and Aruba Instant On, selected based on building type, user density, and budget. All recommended hardware supports the latest WiFi standards (Wi-Fi 6 / 802.11ax) for improved performance in high-density environments.
Access points are powered over Ethernet (PoE), which simplifies cabling and allows placement wherever a network cable reaches — without the need for a nearby power socket. AMVIA handles all structured cabling as part of the installation where required.
Network Segmentation and Security
A properly managed business WiFi network should segment traffic between different user groups. At minimum, AMVIA configures separate SSIDs for staff, guest users, and IoT or visitor devices. Each SSID is mapped to a separate VLAN, ensuring that guest devices cannot access the corporate network and that IoT devices are isolated from user workstations.
Staff networks are configured with WPA3 Enterprise authentication where possible, using certificate-based or credential-based access rather than a shared password. This prevents departed employees retaining access and provides a user-level audit trail if needed.
Centralised Management and Monitoring
All access points managed by AMVIA are enrolled in a cloud management platform. This provides centralised visibility of signal strength, client connections, channel utilisation, and firmware status. AMVIA's engineers can push configuration changes and firmware updates remotely, without requiring a site visit.
AmviaIQ monitors the health of every access point. If an access point drops offline or a channel conflict develops, the issue is flagged automatically. AMVIA investigates and resolves most wireless issues remotely, with an engineer dispatched for physical faults.
High-Density Environments
Meeting rooms, open-plan offices, and shared workspaces present particular challenges because of the number of devices competing for airtime on a small number of channels. AMVIA uses band steering (directing capable devices to 5GHz) and airtime fairness settings to prevent slower or older devices from consuming disproportionate bandwidth and degrading performance for others.
For large or complex sites — warehouses, multi-floor buildings, or external coverage requirements — AMVIA designs a structured cabling backbone to support the access point density required, and can include outdoor-rated access points for yard or car park coverage.
Guest WiFi and Captive Portal
Where clients need to provide WiFi access to visitors, customers, or contractors, AMVIA configures a dedicated guest SSID with appropriate bandwidth throttling and internet-only access. A captive portal can be added to require users to accept terms of use before connecting, which is a reasonable control for businesses concerned about acceptable use liability.
Guest network credentials can be time-limited, randomised daily, or managed through a self-service portal depending on your preference.

Managed WiFi FAQs
Access point count depends on floor area, building construction, and device density. As a rough guide, one enterprise access point typically covers 150 to 300 square metres in a standard office environment, but concrete or steel structures reduce coverage significantly. AMVIA conducts a site survey to determine the correct number rather than relying on general estimates.
In most cases, yes. AMVIA plans WiFi replacements to minimise disruption — typically installing new access points alongside existing equipment, then migrating staff over during a low-traffic period. For full replacements, the cutover is usually completed outside business hours. Your existing network remains operational throughout the preparation phase.
Enterprise access points use Power over Ethernet (PoE) and require a Cat5e or Cat6 cable run to each unit. Where your building already has structured cabling, existing runs may be reused. Where new cabling is needed, AMVIA can handle the installation as part of the project. Cabling requirements are identified during the site survey.
Yes. Multi-site wireless management is one of the primary advantages of cloud-managed access points. AMVIA can manage all your sites from a single management platform, applying consistent policies and monitoring all locations through AmviaIQ. This is particularly useful for businesses with branch offices or retail locations.
