Microsoft Teams for Mac: Setup Guide for Business Users
Microsoft Teams works natively on macOS with full feature parity for chat, meetings, and calling. Here is how to install, configure, and optimise Teams on your Mac for business use.

Microsoft Teams runs natively on macOS and delivers the same core functionality as the Windows version. Whether your team uses MacBook Pros or iMacs, you can access chat, video meetings, file sharing, and Teams Phone without compromise.
Installing Teams on Mac
There are two ways to install Microsoft Teams on a Mac. The first is downloading the installer directly from the Microsoft website or the Mac App Store. The second is deploying it via Microsoft Intune or another MDM platform, which is the preferred approach for businesses managing multiple devices.
The native Apple Silicon version (for M1, M2, M3 and M4 chips) has been available since 2023 and offers noticeably better performance and battery life compared to the older Intel-based version running under Rosetta 2.
macOS Permissions
Teams requires several macOS permissions to function properly. You will need to grant access to the microphone, camera, and screen recording (for screen sharing). These permissions are managed under System Settings, then Privacy and Security. If you dismissed the initial permission prompts, you can grant them manually from this menu.
Key Features on Mac
The Mac version includes all core Teams features:
- Chat and channels with full rich-text editing and file sharing
- Video meetings with background effects, breakout rooms, and recording
- Teams Phone for making and receiving PSTN calls (requires a calling plan or Direct Routing)
- File collaboration with real-time co-authoring in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Calendar integration with Outlook for scheduling and joining meetings
Performance Tips
To get the best performance from Teams on Mac, ensure you are running the latest version of macOS and Teams. Close unused browser tabs during meetings to free up memory. If you experience audio issues, check that your preferred microphone and speaker are selected in Teams settings under Devices.
Business Deployment
For organisations deploying Teams across a fleet of Macs, Microsoft Intune provides the most straightforward management path. You can push the Teams installer as a managed app, configure update policies, and enforce security settings such as conditional access and data loss prevention (DLP) policies.
AMVIA supports businesses with Microsoft Teams deployment across mixed Windows and Mac environments, including licensing optimisation and Teams Phone configuration.
